Our present day company started from scratch. Back then work was done solely using man power until machinery started arriving on our Maltese islands. Dynamite was used on large projects such as the Jerma Palace Hotel, which belonged to the Corinthia group in Malta, the Qawra Palace Hotel in Qawra, Malta and the Holiday Inn Complex in Tigne. Main roads in Valletta, St. Paul's Bay bypass and all the roads at Tigne sea front were all constructed using dynamite, as also were many factories. In 1980 the use of dynamite became illegal and hydraulic breakers mounted on hydraulic excavators took over.
Mr Carmelo Galea initially started his job with a lorry transporting torpedos for the British RAF when based on Malta during the 1950's.This was followed by starting taking on small jobs digging reservoirs in rocks. He employed with him around 65 people; in those days Workers had no problems doing such jobs in which air compressors and hand air drills powered breakers were used.
